New Zealand is
located in the southwest Pacific Ocean, midway between the Equator and the South Pole and approximately
900 miles east of Australia. It is similar in size to Japan or Britain and consists of two main islands -
the North Island and the South Island.
It is approximately 13,700 square miles and no point on either island is more than
75 miles from the coast. The landscape is notable for its variety and in particular its mountainous nature.
